spittin’, pissin’, dumpin’

I’m talking about the rain, folks.

Around 9:30 this morning, it was just starting to “spit” rain. I use this to describe the occasional, medium sized droplets that are completely non-threatening, and don’t even hardly get you wet.

At 10:20 this morning, it was pissin’ rain… small to medium droplet size that continues steadily without letup.

At 11:00 this morning, it was dumpin’ rain, a real gully-washer. Large drops, falling constantly, forming giant puddles and backing up the storm drains on the street.

I’m intimately acquainted with all these rainfall variations because I was out riding my bicycle today, on my way to a soccer game that was canceled. Of course, I didn’t know it was canceled until somewhere between pissin’ and dumpin’. So, it you passed the guy on the bike at the top of the Little Italy hill talking on his cell phone, that was me getting late word that the soccer game had been canceled. I rode home through the dumpin’ portion of the program.

Why do I have descriptions of rain that sound like bodily functions? I’ll probably need counseling to figure that one out. Needless to say, the weather was shit during my ride today. I managed to get in about 13 miles on my little misadventure. Mileage is good. I still had a nice time, and the climbs I did were definitely easier than the last time I did them.

I could probably spend a rainy day figuring out better descriptions for rain, however.
