Search Terms

When you do this blogging thing, you have access to statistics about blog activity.  Not who’s reading it, but what they are reading and what search terms they used to find you.  I find the search phrases amusing, like today’s offering:

The next-to-last entry caught my fancy today.

seven thangs

November 21st, 2007 John Posted in blogging 2 Comments »

Paige has tagged me for the Seven Things meme.

I’m supposed to link back to her site and give you the rules.

Rules: list seven random or weird things about yourself.

Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

I have a mustache, and a beard on my chin. When I am concentrating on something, I play with my beard. See, I just did it now while trying to respond to this damn meme.

I have a small figurine of Gromit in front of my computer monitor. He’s holding his chin and thinking about something. When I’m playing with my beard while concentrating, he’s in the exact same pose as me. I find a strange symmetry in that.

I hate spending money. I’ll look up an airfare several times over several days before I can pull the trigger, because the numbers look large. The net result is that I often end up paying more because I waited.

The one thing I will (often) send back to the kitchen at a restaurant is french fries. If I am splurging on fries, they better be hot, crisp on the outside, and not soggy.

I can ride my bike pretty well with no hands.

When I come home, I will lay on the floor and let the dogs welcome me.

I’ve never done a meme, and I don’t think I like it. This is way more work that trying to write a few creative paragraphs about my turkey brine.

You be tagged:

Captain Sarcastic

Add Humor and Faith

Raven Smiles

My journal and journey

Stay at home mom

You’re supposed to do seven folks, I’m out of gas at 5.  too bad.

A new look (again)

October 1st, 2007 John Posted in blogging, wordpress No Comments »

Mr. early-adopter saw a new release of Wordpress had been announced, and just couldn’t wait to upgrade. Usually, my hosting service makes this rather painless, with their one-click install/upgrade process.

The changes in this release are just significant enough that the existing theme I was using for my blog was not immediately compatible. Changing one’s theme is similarly a one-click process, as is evidenced with my having wiped out my perfectly good theme 6 months ago with just such an errant click.

During morning coffee I did a quick comparison scan between “available themes” and “themes that work with version 2.3″. Criteria was:

  • functional
  • simple to view
  • simple to tweak

I thought the fonts on the last theme were a little obscure, requiring the old blogger to clean his glasses before reviewing comments. This one seemed to meet my criteria, and I could actually read it. Bonus points for having orange accents, to match pics of my bike in action, whenever I actually get my ass back on the damn thing. Therefore, I present to you Limau Orange, my theme of the moment.

Until I change my mind, or hit the wrong button again.
