Sneak Peek – Century Ride of the Centuries 2009

I have a report from my “moles” inside the organizing committee for the Century Ride of the Centuries.

For those not familiar, it is a three-day supported bicycle ride around Pendleton Oregon, held each year on Memorial Day weekend.  This will be my 4th year attending this ride.  It is by far the best supported club ride I’ve ever experienced.  The roads are in great condition, you almost see zero automobiles, and the food is great!

Registration will open on their website on February 23, 2009.

Orientation/packet pick-up is Friday the 22nd of May.  There are rides of varying lengths on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Registration fee will be $150 for riders, $75 for guests (there’s food and entertainment that non-riders can partake in).

  1. Lee and I are in for our third time. Awesome way to spend Memorial Day Weekend. Put out a reminder when registration opens.

  2. BEST RIDE EVER!! Robert and I did it 2004 & 2005. Plan to do it again this year and bringing some friends. When is registration???

  3. Last year the registration form was posted on their website on February 20th. My guess is that it will be some time between now at March 1.

I see you are local… have we met on the road somewhere?

  4. ok..thanks!

  5. Bruce & I are in…already made the hotel reservations so he can have his hot bowl of gravy in the mornings.

  6. For the folks wondering about that last comment, Bruce took a heaping bowl of what he thought was oatmeal from a crockpot at breakfast, put some raisins and brown sugar on it, and ate the whole bowl before we correctly identified it as gravy for the biscuits.

    Hilarity ensues.

  7. I have a tentative hall pass for the event. Hoping they do the ascent up Thorn Hollow Drive again – I &heart; that road.

  8. How much is a hall pass running these days? Price of gold is way up…

  9. Registration will open for 2009 on Monday, February 23.

  10. Apparently this ride is priceless! Still no indication of how much dinero to send along.

  11. Patience, grasshopper.
