Missed it by that much
So, I’m sitting here 30.13 miles shy of my 200 mile goal for the month of November, and I have two days to go. Since last week, I haven’t really had a day out of the saddle:
- Saturday: Ride to Black Diamond Bakery
- Sunday: HIT (spin) session
- Monday: The wet ride
- Tuesday: Use It or Lose It
- Wednesday: HIT session
Which brings us to tonight. I have two days to get 30 miles and change. A small window of opportunity opened up between work and daughter’s birthday, slightly less than 2 hours worth. Possible snow in the weather forecast for later just serves to ratchet up the intensity to get this done. I grabbed my bike (the faster one), threw on bike togs, and set out into the wind (which was North tonight). I rode as far as I could in an hour, then turned around and rode back in an attempt to top the goal. Good plan, huh? If I average over 15 mph (including stops, etc.) I’m golden.
Not so fast, bike-boy. My legs are pretty spent at the moment as they have had no rest. It was a long pull into the wind to get my butt up to I-5 in Tukwila, then my 180 and the time trial down the Interurban Trail to the car. 2 miles from the car, I am joined by another rider who has just merged onto the trail. “Mind if I join you? More lights are better!”. “Sure, no problem”. No problem, until he piles on the speed and I’m sucking wind at about 22 mph. I held with him (barely), and wheezed my thanks as I reached the car with just enough time to get home and shower before we take the fam. out to dinner.
The punch line is that after tonight’s mad dash, my month to date mileage is 196.67, 3.33 miles shy of the target for the month.
Guess who’s going for a very short ride tomorrow?
4,800.84 miles ytd. Bonus points if you know the source of the title of this entry.

Kudos to you for the daily HIT.
I’m hoping I can break away early from work tomorrow (well, technically Today now…) to get some riding in. It figures the day I have a hall pass it’s forecast to snow.
Here’s to a 200 mile December!

200.24… I crossed the threshold with a 3.57 mile spin at lunch.
