A nice day after all
The weather actually cooperated, and we had (mostly) sunshine today for our Newcomers ride. Terri stayed home and iced her knee. It was just as well, as we only had 2 other folks show up for the ride. Allyson came from the far north to help by sweeping the ride.
From Kent we headed north along the Green River Trail. We had more good news along the way when we found that the trail closure (for levee work) north of S. 200th St. is complete. The paving work obviously went to the low bidder, as it wasn’t exactly the “smooth-as-glass” effect that I was anticipating. By contrast with it’s former “sliding into the Green River” effect, however, it was an improvement.
I was also anticpating a detour or other sort of mayhem for the promised pedestrian bridge work in Tukwila. There was nary a sign of any work being done on this wooden span across the Green River, which means that the completion date of this project will likely be far later that the promised 5 weeks. The weather is turning wetter, and the rising river levels are not going to make work on the support structure easier as winter progresses.
The balance of the ride was fairly uneventful, with the exception of one rider having left his car keys on the bumper of his truck. This realization hit just about at the apex of our northward trek away from the parking lot. He opted to then leave the ride and head straight back to the cars, which we continued with the planned route. He lives in the area and is quite familiar with roads and trails, so I was not worried about him getting lost. His keys and vehicle remained exactly where he had left them, and by riding the last few miles of the route in reverse, he was able to rejoin us for the end of the ride.
19.7 miles today, 4,650 ytd.
