Random 4 a.m. STP musings

I spent a lot of yesterday fussing with details for the ride. I decided to limit the amount of food I’m carrying, and just worry more about having my tried-and-true beverage with me for the 200 miles. Too much solid food and I feel weighted down, so I’ll munch the occasional bagel with peanut butter but concentrate on getting my carbs via drinking.  I’ve packed enough drink mix to get me to Longview, where I expect I’ll see Terri as she heads down to P-Town. I’ve put additional drink mix in the car, along with a change of cycling clothes in case I want to freshen my kit. Not sure I’m going to want to wrestle in and out of fresh bibs, but it sounds like a good idea right now.

I ran into a cycling friend on Thursday, who asked me if I’d do a bar-tape job (that would be handlebar tape, not video taping a segment for girls-gone-wild) for his wife. It worked out that she brought her bike around yesterday, and I gave her a brief bar wrapping clinic. It was therapeutic to fuss over someone else’s details, rather than continue to fuss over my own.

Last night’s carbo-bomb was Linguine alla vongole (spaghetti with clams in a white wine and clam broth reduction). It’s pretty quick to make, and I’m dang good at it. It was delicious. The sauce is thin, almost broth-like, perfect for dipping into with a hand-ripped piece of sourdough bread.

Predicting my arrival time is a bit of a crap-shoot, but I’ll venture a guess at around 8 p.m.
