Bike to Work Day 2007
Even though I’m lucky enough to have no commute (I work from home), I agreed to do some bike commuting with Terri during Bike-To-Work month. This means that I do 4 lengths of the valley, and Terri gets 2 in a given day.
We had managed to do this feat only once before Friday, due to schedule conflicts and meteorological issues. Friday dawned beautiful, however, and we set out to participate in Bike to Work Day.
The official swag/rest stops for our area were located on the Green River Trail, rather than the more direct Interurban. To be able to hit the stops and score our trophy souvenir water bottles, we drove a couple of miles to Russell Road Park, and started riding from there. First stop was REI headquarters, where we picked up clif bars, bottles, stickers, and pins. Curiously enough, we entered a drawing to win a free bicycle from another bicycle retailer, not from REI. Go figure. Perhaps they are just doing their part to ping the profit margin of the competition. We also scored stuff at Raleigh America HQ, and at the Tukwila REI sponsored stop.
I rode up to pick Terri up in the late afternoon, availing myself of the more direct route up the Interurban. The skies had turned considerably less beautiful in the late afternoon, and by the time I reached Renton it was windy, completely overcast, and the occasional rain drop could be felt. There was less traffic going home, which may have been a product of the time we were travelling, or the weather, or both. We did have to come to a sudden stop just north of 212th Street to allow these pedestrians to cross the trail.
1,850 miles year-to-date.
