’tis the season, already!

Seattle to Portland Bicycle ClassicI woke up to drain and re-hydrate the bod, and I ended up doing an hour of my insomniac routine this morning. Surfing The Internets when I should be snoozin’.

However, in my clicking around the tubes I happened to take a look at the suggested training mileage for the big ride of our region, the annual Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic double-century ride. This suggested schedule is put together by Craig Undem of Cycle University. The training plan actually starts THIS COMING WEDNESDAY!

I’m not sure why this particular tidbit of news has me so giddy. I am, after all, likely to ride a century or three well before STP comes in mid-July. I’ve also managed to keep riding through the winter, logging mileage well in excess of that suggested. I guess it’s just one of those early signs of spring approaching, like the frog songs that are beginning to be heard on our night rides here in the Kent/Auburn valley. If the frogs are out, can my fellow cyclists be far behind?

I logged a couple of +/- 20 milers this week. Saturday and Sunday will be spent leading the Explore Kent rides, a great advocacy event for local cycling that will do nothing to challenge my fitness. I may have to sneak out early and do some extra hill work before these rides. That is, if I can get back to sleep first.
