Sick Day(s)
On Thursday one family member showed up citing vague stomach discomfort. By Friday he was spending his time either on or in front of the porcelain throne as a pretty severe case of 24 hour flu ripped through him.
Sunday was my turn. It started with the lower g-i tract, developing into a full-blown case of the trots by mid-afternoon. Dinner at 6 still seemed like a good idea, until about 7 when I lost it. The next 6 hours was a series of trips to the bathroom. Terri would ask “heads or tails?” as I left the room, I think so that she’d know if she had to turn up the volume of the television to mask whatever noise I was making. Sometimes the answer to her question was obvious, sometimes not.
My son got home from work around 10PM, and I could hear him knocking around downstairs on my trips to-and-from the johnny-pot. He called me today to inquire as to the state of my health, stating that he had heard me making sounds that “weren’t quite human”. He ended up falling asleep with the television on as a sound masking device.
The “heads” portion of the program died down at around 1AM, although we aren’t out of the woods yet on the “tails” portion. I started sipping water again once I could, but it took another 6 hours or so before I had re-hydrated enough to actually pee.
Today I spent napping and doing a little work, but my energy is definitely lagging. No spin class tonight, that’s for sure. Tomorrow’s Use It or Lose It ride is likely out of the question for me as well. I’m arranging for coverage, but it won’t likely be necessary as the temperatures are forecast to be below freezing. Ice and snow cancel the ride.
So between my health and the weather, I’m kinda stuck. Hopefully I will feel strong enough to ride on Thursday night, thus completing 4,000 miles for the year, and before December to boot.
