Waiting for Mr. Sunshine

It’s cold and dark. True, that does describe any number of mornings between November 1 and May 1 around these parts. Your author is sipping his morning cup ‘o’ joe and watching his little Firefox weather widget count down to the day’s lowest temperature. We’re at 39 degrees Fahrenheit, and holding. I’m waiting for a semi-decent hour to start banging around to ready myself for today’s primary activity, a Cascade Bike Club ride up to Black Diamond Bakery, returning via Green Valley.
My plan was to do my NaBloPoMo duties tonight, recapping the ride and regaling you with tall tales about how cold it was, how many folks did or did not show up, etc. However, as I sat down to do a little random surfing while the caffeine goes to work on my lazy-ass synapses, my personalized Google homepage presented me with the following words of the day:
inclement: harsh; severe — especially said of the weather.
avoirdupois: weight; heaviness.
trencherman: a hearty eater.
Alright, which one of you smarty-pants is in charge of the Dictionary.com word of the day? True, I did eat hearty on Thanksgiving, but didn’t you? And yes, I am working on my avoirdupois thank-you-very-much. And as far as that inclement comment goes, I think you are being a little “glass-half-empty”, don’t you think?
Hey, it’s not raining. Hopefully it won’t be freezing along the route. If we encounter frost, we just turn around, right? The key will be dressing in layers. Enough to keep my bod warm and comfy, but not so much that I overheat on the climb up to Black Diamond.
We’ve just clicked down to 38 degrees in the time it took me to blah-blah-blah this far. Molly has risen, which will now start the interactive portion of my day as I bundle up to take her outside, then negotiate how many milk bones that deserves. I’m personally less receptive to cold-and-crunchy breakfast on chilly mornings, however. Of course, that may explain some of my avoirdupois…
