Wrong Turns
Sunday’s plan was for Terri and I to explore a little new territory via bicycle. We settled on ride #51 from the Bicycling the Backroads Around Puget Sound, Millersylvania/Centralia. As morning dawned, however, we opted for a day of rest instead, and chose to go via auto to pre-scope this ride for a later date. These routes were written up to 11 years ago, and the route could have changed in that time.
Sure enough, we were in uncharted territory by mile 5 of this 54 miler. A series of right and left turns through farm country were confusing, probably due to more roads having been put through in the interim.
The sequence now, for posterity’s sake, is:
Mile Direction
4.8 R on Goddard
5.9 L on Gibson
6.5 R on 169th
7.6 L on Leitner
8.1 L on 176th
8.2 R on Leitner
8.5 L on Danby
8.6 R on Leitner
9.1 R on 183rd
Also, at mile 36 the route describes getting on Hwy 12 to cross an offset crossing of Moon Road, this is no longer the case. Go straight across Hwy 12.
This ride features some really pretty country, especially the Lincoln Creek Valley. There was one climb of note, but it didn’t appear to be too awful, and it’s only a mile long.

Great idea, John.
The Boy and I recently did a 30 mile ride which was listed in a local bike book, and it was startling difficult to follow. We had a great time, despite the dearth of directions, and I was thinking it would be a good idea to publish the changes on my blog, as it’s a fairly popular book. Good thing you and Terri took the car!

You’re very brave, my friend. I compared the Puget Sound book to my neck of the woods and there are numerous differences, routes more suited for bikes, etc.
I like Scout’s idea of publishing the deltas.
