The birthday spin
We shook off the cobwebs with a little after-work spin through the Kent Valley on Thursday. The weather was sunny and pleasant, with the exception of a wicked 16 mph cross-wind coming out of the west. The trails we were riding run primarily north-south, so it felt like we had a headwind almost 100% of the time. Terri played some with drafting behind me, but the crosswind made that a little tricky, so we ended up just cruising.
Wildlife highlight was a great blue heron eyeballing us from the Green River as he fished for dinner. There also seems to be an unseen hawk’s nest near the Interurban Trail between 180th and 212th. I hear what I presume is a young hawk squawking for dinner coming from the trees east of the trail.
After the ride, Terri headed home to start making chicken curry, while I swung by my local bike shop to figure out my rear wheel situation. Unfortunately the fellow I needed to talk to had left early to attend the Crosby Stills & Nash concert. I’m a little worried about doing RSVP on a bent wheel, and I’m presuming that I’m running out of time to get one built.
The brake-hood adjustment seems to be o.k., but I don’t think I’ll know for sure until I put in some serious mileage, which will be next Friday on day 1 of RSVP. I need to sort out my cycling glove situation now as well, since my left one is so stretched through the palm.
19.5 miles today, 2,704 YTD.
