After I updated my ride log the other day, it turned out that if I had done one lap around the Supermall after my last ride, I would have crossed the 2,000 mile mark for this year. Instead, I was 1.2 miles shy.

Today was the day to get out and put it to "paid", so after family obligations were met for the moment, I headed out to rack up a few early evening miles and go "over the top", so to speak. It wasn't glamorous, and no one was around to mark the event, but it's done. I ended up just doing a quick 15 miles or so down in the Auburn/Kent valley.

The punctuation mark came with about 5 miles to get back to the car, when I finally was getting full benefit of the tailwind (that I had fought all the way up the valley in it's more evil form, headwind). Didn't see it coming, but a bee stung me on the side of my neck at about 21 mph. This is a bit disconcerting to say the least. Having had a bee incident a couple of weeks ago, I promptly stopped to assess the damage, remove any lingering stingers, and then proceed back to the car monitoring for any signs of allergic reaction (am I breathing now? am I breathing now?) I couldn't feel anything protruding, but it felt like hell, so I took this snapshot to see just how ugly it was. It was.

2 weeks ago I thought something pinged off my helmet. Then, I felt something inside my helmet. When this happens, REMOVE THE HELMET. I stupidly just lifted the front half off my forehead. This served to trap said bee between the helmet and the forehead, resulting in a sting.

Wounded, but satisfied, here's my year in review for cycling and indoor spinning classes:
Since February 9,
54 hours in Spin Class
215 total saddle hours, bike and spinning
2,014 miles
25 pounds lost.
